Chapter Five - Contentnation

Prompts are a powerful way to upgrade your AI game. These simple instructions included in your request provide the framework for the GenAI response, regardless of the platform you use. The more direction you give, the more a response will align with your needs.

So regardless of where you fall on how and where you use AI, here are 10 solid prompts to power up GenAI use for content creation.

Prompt 1: Length of response

Specify the length of a response you want your GenAI to give. This can limit or extend the length of an answer to meet your content or research needs.

Prompt 2: Tone of voice

Tone of voice is the bedrock of good copy. That’s particularly true for a marketing agency—adapting to the unique needs of a broad range of brands and audiences. Nailing the tone of voice means delivering on a brief. GenAI can help with that.

Prompt 3: Give GenAI a character

GenAI has a remarkable potential to explore unique points of view, offering inspiring content ideas and perspectives that can power up your ideation and creation.

Want GenAI to become a travel agent and tell you about the world? Can do. Want Indiana Jones to give you ideas about ancient Egypt? It’s got that covered. Want a sports commentator to give you an update on your latest client comms? Just plug it in. Your imagination is the limit.

Prompt 4: Table those answers

Want ChatGPT to come up with answers in a more digestible format? Well tables are your way. With a simple prompt, you can create a user-friendly table to serve up your response in a bite-size way. The same goes for other format choices (lists, pros and cons, summaries, etc.).

Prompt 5: Respond for the audience

Different audiences boast different levels of topic understanding. That means you need to write content for them in different ways. GenAI can be prompted to recognise an audience, and help build a response that reflects their particular point of view or knowledge level. Think about the differences between writing for a business audience or a group of young students—you need to adapt accordingly.

Prompt 6: Dial in with devil’s advocate

Devil’s advocate is the idea that it’s essential to hear competing views to best assess a situation. GenAI can help with that too. Prompting GenAI to hear both sides of a debate can help you understand conflicting or complex views, without a simple, binary answer that you might otherwise get from a GenAI response.

Prompt 7: Get the ideas flowing

Coming up with a new project brief and struggling to spark some inspiration? GenAI has got your back. Provide your GenAI with some understanding of the task, the topic, and what you need, and get those robot ideas spinning. The more you frame the scenario, the more you’ll get out of the response. Don’t just say “I need blog ideas.” Make sure you input the sector, the campaign theme, and whatever parameters make most sense for you.

Prompt 8: Inspire a social media plan

Looking to plan out the next month on social media and struggling to find inspiration amidst the onslaught of content requests? Get GenAI gears turning and help spark the inspiration. Set the parameters of social media management, details of your brand, your tone of voice, and the desired schedule, and hit the button marked “oh dear is my job now obsolete.”

Prompt 9: Create a quiz!

Everyone loves a good quiz, right? GenAI is a great way to create inspiring quiz content, and can provide a fantastic opportunity for both external and internal engagement.

Why not create a quick quiz on a topic for a brand audience on social media? Maybe a quiz blog on an interesting topic for an awesome brand you’re working with? But a quiz can go beyond just social media likes—it’s also a great way to create internal assessments on key topics within your team or organisation.

Prompt 10: Translate that text

GenAI isn’t an English-only construct these days—it operates across a huge range of languages and markets. It also offers a powerful tool to understand and analyse text in different languages. Google Gemini can translate over 100 languages, making it both a valuable tool for content… but also a pretty nifty tool for travel. This can also be super-helpful for research, particularly translating to get an understanding of news stories published in different languages.

Where GenAI can go beyond your more simplistic, static translation model on the internet is it often adds context, or additional context can be provided to it, making a more nuanced language tool. As ever, be aware that bad translations will reflect badly on a brand.

Remember, GenAI is iterative.
That means if you’re not happy with the answer it gives, you can prompt it to respond slightly differently by asking follow-up questions.

Warning: The prompts above are a non-exclusive list of the remarkable range of tools which can be used to guide, inform, and spur GenAI into life. But they must be used in consideration with the concerns and limitations highlighted previously in this report. Always fact check sources, always ensure clear communication with stakeholders, and remember that the ultimate responsibility for brand trust and reputation is a judgement call for you—the human who gets in trouble if your GenAI-powered content boat hits an iceberg.
