Are businesses designing work models around people or forcing them to adapt to outdated arrangements? This is the question that every company should ask themselves today.

Global Work From Home (WFH) Day recognises the importance of giving people the autonomy and flexibility to do their best work from the comfort of their own homes. But, it’s about so much more than just being able to roll out of bed and immediately hit the ground running.

Celebrating Global WFH Day means celebrating the shift in mindset that has forever changed how we view work-life balance. Today’s workforce prioritises job satisfaction, evidenced by the 55% of Malaysian workers who prefer a hybrid work model.

This research shows that it’s time for businesses to move beyond return-to-office debates and focus on creating work environments that are conducive to employees’ needs. The ‘office’ is no longer restricted to a physical building and has evolved to a network of people connected by purpose.

At Content Nation, working from home is our blueprint for success. We’ve been a fully remote digital marketing agency since 2019 and we’ve learned that creativity and collaboration shouldn’t be confined within four walls.

Creativity Comes From People, Not Places

Ask any writer or designer and they will tell you that their creative sparks don’t happen in the office or between 9am to 6pm. It happens when they’re sipping teh tarik, scrolling through TikTok, or sometimes just doing nothing of note at all!

We found that when our team is comfortable, it reflects in their work. Research by Cisco supports this, stating that 60% of workers believe that the quality of their work has improved with a hybrid work model.

By allowing our team to work from home, we’re giving them the mental space to work in a way that works for them. It’s a lot easier to let ideas come to you, rather than trying to force them out!

If You Don’t Communicate, You Can’t Collaborate

Communication and trust are the two most important values a leader can instill in team members when working from home. Trusting people to proactively communicate with each other gives them the confidence to reach out when they need help, creating a more engaged workforce.

Research by PwC Malaysia and Asia School of Business found that 87% of employees who trust their company are active learners. This means that by trusting teams to communicate, business leaders can cultivate a strong upskilling culture which helps improve collaboration.

We are also strong believers of spontaneous messages not related to work. The occasional virtual taco for a job well-done and the random “have you watched this show yet?” create a digital work environment that brings back the human element of working. And we’re really big on being human!

There’s Always More Than One Way To Solve A Problem

A big part of why hybrid and remote work models are successful is because businesses have access to a global talent pool, which means having a team with diverse perspectives.

Based on McKinsey’s research, companies in the top quartile for both gender and ethnic diversity in executive teams are 9% more likely to outperform their peers. While, gender (27%) and ethnically (13%) diverse boards of companies in the top quartile financially outperform those in the bottom quartile. Simply put, having a more diverse workforce is not just ethical but essential for a company’s bottom line.

At Content Nation, we’ve seen this play out in real time. Since our team isn’t bound by location, we are able to hire globally and foster cross-border collaboration between team members and clients. So when it comes to brainstorming content ideas or solving issues, we can tap into a global team who offer different perspectives and ideas that help inform our decision-making.

By coming together across various continents, we can craft content that isn’t just rich in creativity but also rooted in regional and cultural insights. This helps us deliver engaging ideas that are both culturally attuned and tailored from our experiences in Europe, South Asia, Southeast Asia, North America, and beyond.

Ultimately, when creativity crosses borders, the ideas are stronger, more engaging, and that helps us to deliver bespoke ideas and solutions for our clients.

Don’t Just Celebrate Today! Make Global WFH Day A Daily Thing

Work should be decentralised and borderless. Remote work allows us to build a more agile, diverse, and empowered workforce. And in an industry that evolves with every second, that flexibility isn’t just nice to have but essential.

At Content Nation, this is our norm. What about you?
