Energy, it’s complicated. This probably isn’t news to you, right? Disruption in global energy markets as a result of conflict in the Middle East is shaking up how we live, work, and travel.
The spiralling costs of fuel mean that for many businesses and markets, work from home is back on the menu! Well at Content Nation, we never stopped serving remote work to begin with.

The conflict in the Middle East has sent global oil markets into full chaos mode, and you’re probably feeling it every time you fill up the tank. With crude oil prices having surged above US$100 per barrel, we’re definitely feeling its effects across ASEAN.
The International Energy Agency (IEA) has put remote work at the very top of their crisis response recommendations, estimating that it could cut car fuel demand by up to 6% nationally if people work from home just three days a week.
Malaysia’s Prime Minister just announced that work from home will be implemented in stages for the public sector, while urging the private sector to do the same. Our SEAblings are also beginning to introduce work from home policies to reduce energy and fuel consumption.
At Content Nation, we’ve been fully remote since before COVID made it a thing. So while the world scrambles to figure out the logistics of a distributed team (again), we’re just…working, as usual.
Why we back work from home jobs
Here’s our totally honest and unbiased take: remote work is great, actually.
Work from home benefits both Content Nation as an employer, and our employees as individuals. Less miserable (and expensive) commutes mean less miserable colleagues. Our flexibility actually lets people live their lives. That makes everyone happier, and happier marketers deliver better work.
We believe in trusting people to deliver, and giving them the autonomy to do so, is the path to success.

Here’s what trusting your team actually means and looks like:
-
- Work from anywhere — Literally wherever you want. An office, the bed, a cafe. We’re 100% remote, which means our talent pool is the entire planet.
- Global perspectives — Different timezones and culture means different worldviews inform our content.
- No working on the weekend — “Hi, sorry to bother you on a Sunday, but I just…” Nope. Log off. Go touch some grass and we’ll chat on Monday.
- Unlimited paid time-off is real here — The myth of unlimited PTO is real at Content Nation. You’re an adult and we treat you like one. We trust you to get the work done.
What does the energy crisis mean for remote employment opportunities?
There’s no escaping the severity of the current energy crisis. Fuel prices are skyrocketing, long-term costs are uncertain, and the knock-on impacts are complex and far-reaching. That means the adaptations are likely to last too.
This isn’t a time for throwaway jokes—despite our Content Director’s burning need to add a pun to every paragraph. It’s a time to provide support and shared solutions. At Content Nation, we firmly believe that flexibility is the best way to give everyone the space to thrive against that difficult backdrop.
Remote employment opportunities are becoming less of a perk and more of a baseline expectation, and we think that’s a good thing. Not just because it helps save on petrol and office overheads (though every little bit counts right now), but because it means you get people at their best, all the time.
We believe in this philosophy so much that we’re putting data where our mouth is and you can be part of this research! Details to follow soon.
